In the old comics Logan accused Xavier once of making Kitty "the pup he would tame the wolf" he was.  According to comic legend, originally Byrne wanted Kitty to die as a result of bothering Logan over breakfast, as an example of how feral Wolverine was.  But Clairemont like her as a character and saw her as a way to write about the softer side of Wolverine.  For once, I was glad Clairemont won out.
